ZugZwang Festival IV

Weststadt Bar
The concert hall is a former engine shed of the German national railroad company. I t's located northwards to the central station, directly besides the railway tracks leading from Darmstadt to Frankfurt It was built of bricks in the 1950ies. After it was renovated true to the original style in the 1990ies, the "Weststadt Bar" moved into the shed. Five meter tall windows offer a direct view onto the tracks and create a special ambience. This was one of the reasons the festival was named ZugZwang: "Zug" means both, train or move; "Zwang" means constraint. In the game of chess, zugzwang describes a situation which forces your opponent to do a disadvantageous move. |
